What do you need to get started?
When we say “to get started”, we mean what is absolutely needed to start fly fishing. The basic gear you'll need:
A fly rod
A fly reel with a fly fishing line, (which consists of backing, a fly line, a leader, and a tippet).
A fly flies appropriate for where you will be fishing.
Many fly gear companies offer “combo sets” that comes with everything you need. The problem is fly fishing beginners naturally don't want to put much money into a hobby that they may not find enjoyable. So beginners tend to procure poor-quality fly fishing gear easily breaks or doesn't perform well. Then the disappointed fisher is unjustly frustrated into giving up on what could have been a very rewarding sport.
Begin with success in mind and always buy the best quality gear (notice we did not say most expensive) you can afford is the very best advice. Beginners do not need much to fly fish beyond the basics. A lot of the fun of learning to fly fish is slowly choosing and adding the items you truly need to get to the next level you desire.
Step #1 is selecting the fly rod and reel.
As we just said, all you need to get started is a fly rod, a fly reel, a fly line, and some flies. But there are a few important details that go along with that statement.

Spotting the fish.

Beers crafted by London’s best breweries are on tap and rotated monthly to keep our selections interesting. We also have a small stage where musicians and entertainers of all kinds perform for the sensory delight of our guests.
